This July, join an intimate five-part jazz series spotlighting acclaimed Cape Town–born trumpeter Muneeb Hermans, whose sound blends soulful tradition with world-class experience. Each Friday evening offers a distinct musical journey—from cinematic storytelling and jazz standards to original compositions and bold collaborations—set in an atmosphere designed for close listening and connection.

The series opens on July 5th with Muneed Herman's Quartet, followed by July 11th showcasing his Quintet interpreting beloved jazz standards. On July 18th, the Quintet returns with music from Muneeb’s acclaimed album One for HP, before the season culminates in a special finale on July 25th featuring an expanded lineup and surprise guest appearances, bringing the series to an unforgettable close. On July 26th his quartet is returning to CONTXT for a special Wrap-up concert.

About Muneeb

Born in Cape Town, Muneeb embarked on his musical journey within the vibrant Cape Minstrel fraternity. His passion for jazz led him to pursue a formal education in Jazz Performance at the University of Cape Town. Since then, Muneeb has become a fixture in the Cape Town jazz scene, captivating audiences with his soulful trumpet melodies.

His talent has taken him beyond borders, gracing stages in the UK, France, China, Seychelles, Spain, and the USA, including a memorable performance at the illustrious Carnegie Hall. Muneeb is a regular at South Africa's major jazz festivals, having showcased his skill at events like the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, Standard Bank National Youth Jazz Festival, and Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival. At the 2026 Cape Town International Jazz Festival Muneeb performed with his own group Camissa Knights and and led

In 2016, Muneeb collaborated with Kinetika Bloco (UK) and The Little Giants (SA) at The EFG London Jazz Festival, demonstrating his versatility and international appeal. Another noteworthy collaboration in 2013 saw Muneeb joining forces with renowned artists such as Benjamin Jephta, Marcus Wyatt, and George Werner for the Big Time project, bridging the musical cultures of South Africa and France.

Muneeb's excellence in performance was recognized during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic when his quintet stood out at the 2020 National Arts Online Festival, earning him accolades from the Virtual National Arts Festival Makhanda.

Throughout his career, Muneeb has shared the stage with jazz luminaries like Caiphus Semenya, Errol Dyers, and Jimmy Dludlu, among others, enriching his musical journey with invaluable experiences.

In 2017, Muneeb was selected as the trumpeter for the esteemed Standard Bank National Youth Jazz Band, under the leadership of Buddy Wells, showcasing his commitment to nurturing young talent and contributing to the jazz community.

Continuing to push boundaries, Muneeb Hermans remains engaged in various national and international projects and collaborations, enriching the global jazz landscape. His debut album, "One for HP," by the Muneeb Hermans Quintet, is a testament to his artistry and is now available on all digital platforms, inviting listeners into his world of sublime jazz mastery
